pick: Virginia -2
This should be a close game. I liked this better at -1 but thik Virginia bounces back from a home loss of 2 points last month. UVA gets points from Mike Scott as well as Joe Harris and Sammy Zeglinski.
VA plays better defense under coach Tony Bennett. Seth Greenbrg's Hokies are just an average team. Look for a close win by UVA. My guess is by 5 points. |

Nelly's TUESDAY NIGHT NCAA KNOCKOUT - Feb. 21 |
|
|
02/21/2012 Nelly's 1* #754 Colorado State + over New Mexico 10:00 PM ET
New Mexico just finished off sweeping the two top threats in the Mountain West, winning at San Diego State and beating UNLV at home last week. Saturday's home game was a huge for the Lobos and after a tight first half New Mexico pulled away for a 65-45 win. New Mexico has won and covered seven games in a row and they now have a two game lead in the conference standings. New Mexico will be a bit overvalued on the road in this match-up and this sets up well as a possible letdown spot. Colorado State is 16-9 on the year and 12-1 at home and sitting just 5-5 in conference play the Rams need to finish strong. Given the strength of the conference this season a NCAA tournament berth is not impossible and staying in the top four for the conference tournament will be very important to this team. New Mexico crushed Colorado State at home in late January with an 85-52 win, a game New Mexico shot over 52 percent and made nine 3-point shots. Colorado State had 20 turnovers in the game and they struggled to keep up after a poor first half. Colorado State beat New Mexico at home last season and nearly knocked off the Lobos in the conference tournament so they are capable of having success in this match-up. Colorado State has hit nearly 50 percent shooting at home on the season and this is one of the better free throw shooting teams in the nation at nearly 78 percent. Colorado State has been a far better defensive team at home and they already have home wins over Wyoming, San Diego State, TCU, Colorado, and Denver this season. New Mexico owns a glowing 22-4 record but the non-conference schedule was incredibly weak. Road wins over Arizona State and USC impress no one, and both of those wins came by very slim margins. Look for good value on the home team in what will be a critical make-or-break game for the Rams and this situation as great risk of a flat spot for New Mexico.
Nelly's rates our regular basketball selections 1, 2, and 3-stars. It is a long season so please have a money management plan and be conservative and conscientious with your wagers, Thanks for playing with Nelly's Sportsline and best of luck.

Top Play of the Day in Tuesday NBA Hoop Action from James Patrick Sports |

|
76'ers vs. Grizzlies 8:05 p.m. est.
Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins picked the right time to return to the wars. The Sixers clearly look like the best team in the Atlantic Division, and Collins has had much to do with their improvement from a (.500) team last year to the fourth-best record in the league this season. Defense is a major reason for the Sixer surge, as only Boston (86.5 ppg) gives up fewer points than Philly’s (86.6) per game allowance. Last season, the Sixers gave up (97.5) ppg, but this year the development of center Spencer Hawes (8.3 rpg, 1.5 blocks, though missing 11 games with a sore Achilles and back problems), the health of power forward Elton Brand (7 rpg, 1.6 blocks), and the addition of 7-0 rookie pivot Nikola Vucevic (from Switzerland; spend three Cal) has given Philly opponents pause to think before driving to the hoop. Offensively, the Sixer scoring is as widely distributed as any in the league. Essentially, eight players are averaging double-figures, led by guard Lou Williams (15.5 ppg), who hasn’t started a game. Philadelphia doesn’t do anything particularly well except for take care of the ball. They had the lowest turnover rate in the NBA last year. Combine that with solid defense, and it’s a formula for a playoff berth in the East. 76'ers Bear Down in Memphis and get a road win.

On: Colorado State (Game 744)
Note: Saturday's home win over UNLV not only increased New Mexico's lead in the
MWC to two full games but also vaulted the Lobos into the national rankings for
the first time in two years. It could also spell L-E-T-D-O-W-N tonight in Fort
Collins. As it is, New Mexico is 0-5 ATS on the road versus greater than .400
opposition in games after dealing with Vegas. And tonight’s opponent, the
under-the-radar Rams, will be out to avenge an 85-52 beating – their worst loss
of the season – laid on them by the Lobos less than a month ago in Albuquerque.
Recent series history tells us payback is on the menu. In each of the previous
three seasons, State lost by seven or more points in the initial meeting
between these two. However, it appears HC Tim Miles hit the film room and his
Rams promptly responded with three ATS covers in the subsequent encounters. And
with the Fort Collins crew a Ram-tough 12-1 SU at Moby Arena this
season, including 5-0 SU and ATS the last five conference clashes, we envision
a sixth straight win here tonight. We recommend a 3-unit play on Colorado
State. Thank you and good luck as always.

RV: 100% NBA POWER SYSTEM WITH 93% DOMINATOR ANGLE |

On Tuesday the NBA System Side is on the Miami Heat. Game 706 at 7;35 eastern. The Kings fit a terrible system here that has lost 100% all 11 times since 1995. We want to play against rested roads dogs of 10 or more that scored 90 or more as a road dog of 4 or less in their last game and had 25 or less assists, vs an opponent that has rest prior to their last game and shot 455 or better at home in their last game. The average score of these games is 109-90 for out home team. Miami beats the average team by 12 points here at home as they are 13-2 here. The Kings lose by an average of 12 points on the road and have been shelled numerous times away from home this season. Miami has just a one game lead on the Bulls so they wont take any game lightly. Miami is 13-1 straight up and ats in the series. The Heart scorch the Kings tonight. Take Miami

Opening Tip in Tuesday NCAA Hoop Trifecta from James Patrick Sport |
|
|
Georgetown vs. Seton Hall 7:00 p.m. est.
The Pirates are getting their points from the trio of Herb Pope, Fuquan Edwin and Jordan Theodore. The Pirates are (5-0) ATS in their last (5) Tuesday games, (7-2) ATS in their last (9) home games and (4-0) ATS in their last (4) games overall. The Hoyas come in still celebrating their (20th) win on the season and could get a huge surprise by an improving Pirates team. Now that resurgent Seton Hall (good RPI of 31) is back on the radar screen of the NCAA Selection Committee following a 3-game win streak prior to Saturday’s narrow 5-point loss (but cover) at Cincy, the Pirates can strengthen their résumé vs. a Georgetown squad only (3-3) SU its last (6) on the treacherous Big East trail.
(5*) Pot of Gold #718 Seton Hall Pirates
Cleveland State vs. Wisconsin Green Bay 8:00 p.m. est.
The Green Bay Phoenix are (11-2) at home this season averaging (66.2) scoring, and holding teams to (61.7) points scored on defense. The Cleveland St. Vikings are (11-3) while on the road this season averaging (65.9) scoring, and holding teams to (58.2) points scored on defense. The Under is (6-1) in Phoenix last (7) Tuesday games and (9-4) in Phoenix last (13) games vs. a team with a winning % above (.600). The Under is (10-4) in Vikings last (14) road games, (8-2) in Vikings last (10) Tuesday games and (8-3) in Vikings last (11) games following a double-digit loss at home. Strong defense has always been a staple at CSU under head coach Gary Waters and this year has been no different. CSU is ranked first in the league in scoring margin (+8.2), turnover margin (+3.4), steals (9.0) and scoring defense (57.9) and second in field goal defense (.412) and three-point field goal defense (.301). The Vikings have held 19 of their 25 opponents to under 45-percent shooting from the field. This game is huge for the Vikings and look for a defensive struggle in Green Bay.

Miami Florida vs, Maryland 8:00 p.m. est.
The Hurricanes have an experienced group who took their lumps last season before getting hot and proving in the ACC Tournament that they’re capable of matching up with most anyone in the ACC. First-year coach Mark Turgeon of the Terrapins has (250) career wins and took Texas A&M to the NCAA tournament the last four seasons. The Terrapins have been on the improve and are always strong on their home court. Don't understand why they are installed as the underdogs here but we'll take it. The Terrapins are (5-1-1) ATS in their last (7) home games, (4-0) ATS in their last (4) games following a S.U. loss and (5-2) ATS in their last (7) games overall. “Fear the Turtle” as you can count on the fact that the Hurricanes have Sunday's match-up with the Seminoles of Florida State in their minds.

Oilers vs. Flames 9:05 p.m. est.
This is the fifth of six meetings between these fierce rivals. Calgary is (4-0-0) against Edmonton this season, outscoring the Oilers (16-6) along the way. The Flames have won the last nine meetings, and (10) straight at Scotiabank Saddledome. February has been awfully kind to the Flames, who have fought their way into playoff contention. Calgary enters Tuesday's action (5-0-3) this month, which allowed it to move into a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with the Los Angeles Kings. In a (10) game span that ended with Saturday’s win, the Flames went (6-2-2) under the total and held the opponent to one goal or less three times in that stretch. Goaltender Kiprusoff now has (44) career shutouts, and four this season, so this may be a sign of things to come. Inconsistency has plagued Edmonton this season and will certainly keep them out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk is (0-3-1) with a (3.44) goals-against average in five career appearances against the Flames. … Edmonton has not won in Calgary since Oct. 17, 2008. The streak goes on.
3* #20 Calgary Flames
Kings vs. Coyotes 9:05 p.m. est.
The Kings and Coyotes are battling to solidify their positions towards the bottom half of the Western Conference playoff standings, with Phoenix currently sitting in seventh place with (67) points as of Monday. Los Angeles can make a big push towards the postseason with a regulation win over the 'Yotes as they are only two points behind Tuesday's opponent. But Phoenix has been really tough to beat throughout Feburary with a (7-0-1) record this month. The Under is (4-1-2) in the last (7) meetings with the Under (7-0) in Coyotes last (7) overall, (9-1-3) in Coyotes last (13) Tuesday games and (4-0) in Coyotes last (4) home games. The Under is (9-2-1) in Kings last (12) games playing on (2) days rest, (34-11-12) in Kings last (57) overall and (34-13-8) in Kings last (55) road games. The Kings believe it's their time and as long as the Kings' duo in net -- Jonathan Quick and Jonathan Bernier -- maintain their combined (2.09) goals-against average, Los Angeles games will continue to be boring, but profitable for under players.

New Mexico at Colorado State The Lobos are off its two biggest wins of the season, beating San Diego State on the road and avenging an embarrassing loss at UNLV with a big second half at The Pit. Now they go on the road to face a Colorado State team they beat by 33 points earlier in the season. To make matters worse, the last three road games for the Lobos resulted in double digit victories. The fans stormed the court after the victory over the Rebels and we can't find any reason to see New Mexico motivated here. The victory over UNLV virtually clinched the league championship and the Lobos are riding high right now. Colorado State only lost once all season on this court and that was way back in November against Southern Miss. Now sitting firmly on the bubble come postseason time the Rams hold their future in their own hands. They play in succession New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV, three teams heading to the Big Dance. If they can knock off two of those squads they set themselves up for a possible invite themselves, a clean sweep and the Rams are in. This game sets the stage for Colorado State and they want nothing better than to put that embarrassment in Albuquerque behind them. PLAY COLORADO STATE |

Sacramento at Miami The Kings have dropped five straight games heading into tonight's matchup with the red hot Heat, knowing they play again tomorrow at Washington. That's a much more winnable game for Sacramento as they end this six game road trip. NBA teams catching 7 or more points in the first game of a back to back situation this year are just 22-30 ATS. It makes perfect sense as these squads know they don't have the talent to likely win as a sizable underdog and if they fall behind they are likely to rest the starters in the second half with a game the following night. Miami is playing its best ball of the season and they had yesterday off and don't play again till Thursday as they host the Knicks. Miami has cashed its last five games when rested and six straight when not playing the following night. The last six games the Heat have covered by a combined 63 points, over ten points per game. The betting markets have failed to keep up with the Miami improvement. Now that the opening line has been bet down by 1 1/2 points it's time to step in with the hottest team in the league against the low character Kings. PLAY MIAMI |

4 Unit Play. #718 Take Over in Georgetown @ Seton Hall (7 pm ESPN 3) This should be a very competitive game that goes down to the wire and we do expect some fouling to occur at the end to pad the points for both teams. The Pirates are on pace for an NCAA Tournament berth but will need to shot the ball better than what they did in their last outing at Cincinnati. Georgetown is averaging over 70 points per game and the Hall is not a great defense team so I expect them to easily hit that number tonight. The Hoyas have gone over the posted total in 5 of their last 7 games when they are a road favorite of 6.5 points or less. We will not worry about who wins this low odds game and just collect with the over.
4 Unit Play. #740 Take Over in Virginia @ Virginia Tech (9 pm ESPN U) These two teams played a real yawner in their first meeting of the season, as Virginia went cold late in that game to lose to Virginia Tech in Charlottesville. The Hokies are coming off an overtime victory against Georgia Tech and that put forth a good offensive showing scoring 74 points for the first time this season during ACC play. Virginia is also coming off a nice offensive performance against Maryland when they scored 71 points in route to a blowout victory. Virginia Tech has gone over the posted total in 17 of their last 24 home games. The line is ready to attack since Virginia is consistently an under team and the odds now favor a string of overs for this team.
4 Unit Play. #746 Take Greensboro over Wofford (7 pm) The Spartans have cleanup with this low lines recently and they have lost just two games since January 6th, 2912. The Terriers are in the midst of a brutal road schedule, as this will be their fifth road game in their last six games and I do not believe they will have much left in the tank on Tuesday. The Spartans do top the league in terms of individual scoring, as Trevis Simpson has been the most prolific scorer in the Southern Conference this season. Greensboro is 12-3 ATS (1 push) in their last 16 games following an ATS loss in their previous game. Wofford is 1-4 ATS (1 push) in their last 6 games overall.

10-unit Play Take #4 Pittsburgh Penguins over New York Rangers (7:05pm EST) Big matchup between Atlantic Division rivals as the Pittsburgh Penguins play host to the New York Rangers tonight. However, this game is much bigger for the Penguins than it is for the Rangers. Pittsburgh has been sliding a bit as they've dropped four of seven and now find themselves all the way down to sixth place in the Eastern Conference. In my opinion this is the most talented team in the Eastern Conference and they will get their act together to make sure they finish in the upper half of the conference before the playoffs begin. They've battled a ton of injuries all season, but they've got virtually everybody back now except for Sidney Crosby, who they've learned to play without for the last couple of seasons. The Rangers, on the other hand, have a huge lead atop the Eastern Conference as they have a nine-point margin over the second place team. I don't necessarily think they're just going to coast for the rest of the season, but I do expect them to lose a bit of their edge as it's a long season and they don't have anyone challenging them yet. Pittsburgh is a much better team at home than they are on the road with a 17-8-2 mark at the Consol Energy Center. Pittsburgh is our Game of the Day as they are the better team in my opinion and are playing at home where they've dominated all season long. |

Marc Lawrence 18-2 ATS College Hoops Killer Key Play! - Tuesday |
|
|
Play On: Mississippi State (Game 742)
Note: When Mississippi State hosts Kentucky in this battle of Cats and Dogs in the SEC Tuesday evening MUS will take the court knowing they return home off a previous home loss, a situation that keys tonight's play. That's because the Bulldogs are 44-10 SU and 34-18-2 ATS at home in led games off a previous home loss, including 18-3 SU and 18-2-1 ATS when not laying double-digits and playing off a loss of seven or more points in their last game. With Kentucky owning a three-game lead atop the SEC standings, look for MSU to improve to 7-1-1 ATS in this series as a dog of six or more points here tonight. We recommend a 3-unit play on Mississippi State. Thank you and good luck as always.
Marc's Top Super Play on Tuesday night's College Hoops card is also his Fan Appreciation Play. Best of all it's backed with terrific winning angles inside the game. Get it now and win good again with Marc tonight! |

Plays rated 2 thru 5 stars
#703 / 7:05pm ET / Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers 3*** Play on: DETROIT PISTONS
As we get close to All-Star weekend, it's not surprising that the HOTTEST team in the NBA is the San Antonio Spurs (10-1 ATS last 11). But the 2ND hottest team IS surprising.... and that's the DETROIT PISTONS (4-0 ATS last 4 / 9-1 ATS last 10). Their latest victim was the Boston Celtics on Sunday. In that game, Detroit was getting +4.5 points at home... and won OUTRIGHT by 15 (96 to 81). Big home underdog wins like that are rare. So let's run a query to see how these teams do in their next game.
16-5-2 ATS since 1992: All DIVISION road teams playing off a SU home win of 15 > points in a game in which they were an underdog of + 4 or more (DETROIT). These teams have gone 8-1-1 ATS since the 2002 season.
Of course... what FIRST jumped out at us in regards to this game were some of the Systems and Situations which apply to this (Condensed) season only. First off, we note that both teams come in on 1 day of REST. 0-6 ATS this season: All home favorites of < 7 points in a '1/1' REST situation (Cavs) versus any opponent playing off a SU underdog win (PISTONS).
In Cleveland's Sunday game, they squeaked by the Sacramento Kings by one point (93 to 92). 1-8 ATS this season: All Conference home teams playing off a SU home win of 2 or LESS points (Cavs).
The Cavs come in on a 2-game ATS losing streak.... while the Pistons have reeled off 4 ATS wins in a row. 3-12 ATS this season: All NBA home teams off BB ATS losses (Cavs)... versus any opponent off 3+ ATS wins in a row (PISTONS). And favorites of < 9 points (Cavs) in this situation have gone a PERFECT 0-5 ATS.
Tonight is Cleveland's 7th STRAIGHT home game... 4-14 ATS since 2006: All teams in their 7TH straight home game... playing off a SU in (Cavs). These teams have gone 1-6 ATS vs any < .500 opponent (like the PISTONS). |

Plays rated 2 thru 5 stars
7:00pm ET / ESPN 2 TV / #716 / Kansas State Wildcats @ Missouri Tigers 3*** Play on: MISSOURI TIGERS minus the pts
As we shift gears from DOUBLE-Revenge to same-season SINGLE Revenge... we find ourselves loading up tonight on one of the the TOP teams in the country this evening with the HOT Missouri Tigers. With a 25-2 SU record on the year, we also note that Mizzou has gone 4-1 SU vs teams ranked #25 or less... and 8-1 SU vs teams ranked #50 or less.
And there's NO way that the host Tigers will take tonight's game vs Kansas State lightly. After all, their shocking 75-5p upset loss to the Wildcats back on January 7th was their WORST loss of the year. So some major PAYBACK is in order this evening. Let's run a database query for these same-season 'Revengers'... 14-4 ATS this season: All Conference favorites of -10 < points playing with 'SSR1' (same-season SINGLE Revenge) and off BB SU wins (MIZZOU)... versus any opponent also off a SU win (Kan St). These teams have gone 8-1 ATS when they are ALSO playing off BB ATS wins in their last two games.
Missouri is literally on 'cruise control' these days in the BIG 12 Conference. They play this one off 3 straight conference wins (as a fav) of 9... 18.. and 15 points. 12-2 ATS last 12 months: All Conference home favs of -10 < points playing off BBB conference SUATS favorite wins (MIZZOU)... versus any opponent off a SU win (Kan St).
Now, let's narrow our focus to the BIG 12 Conference specifically. First off, let's run that REVENGE scenario again. 13-1 ATS since 2005: All BIG 12 conference home favs of -2 to -10 pts (MIZZOU) playing with 'SSR1'... and also off BB SU wins. In the last 4 years, these 'Revengers' have gone a PERFECT 7-0 ATS.
The Wildcats come in off a BIG upset win over mighty Baylor on Saturday. 0-5 ATS since 2003: All BIG 12 road dogs of > 3 pts (Kan St) playing off a SU conference road UNDERDOG win.
MISSOURI: 15-3 ATS last 5 years a s Home / neutral 'shorter' favs of < 10 points (10-1 ATS last 2 seasons). Also, the TIGERS are a PERFECT 4-0 ATS as 'SSR1' favorites in the last 4 seasons. Meanwhile, the WILDCATS are a PERFECT 0-5 ATS in the last 8 seasons as underdogs of 2 > points playing any 'SSR1' opponent. |

3* #716 MISSOURI (-) over Kansas St at 7 PM EST
There is no way Missouri will take this game lightly. The Tigers have lost two straight to the Wildcats including an embarrassing 75-59 blemish at Manhattan back on January 7th.
Technically speaking, this is a powerful spot for Mizzou. At home matched up against an opponent that checks in off a straight up win, MU has been tough to beat posting a solid 74-16 SU and 45-24-4 ATS record including a rewarding 40-19-3 ATS in this set battling a foe that sports a won/loss percentage of .630 or better. With those two parameters live and the Tigers taking the floor with momentum off two or more straight up wins, this team trends explodes to a juicy 20-2 SU and 16-4-1 ATS!
Off Saturday's 57-56 upset win at Baylor, Kansas State is ripe for a beating too. As a guest competing in a win-win set (KSU off a SU win and its opponent off a SU win, the Wildcats have lost their growl notching a weak 25-41-2 ATS mark. In this role going into revenge, K State slips to a stiff 5-17-2 ATS including 0-6 SU and ATS if the Purple are priced at +8 or more!
In true road games taking the floor against a "Class A" foe that holds a won/loss percentage greater than .850, Kansas State has struggled notching a 5-27 SU and 12-18-1 ATS record. Priced as a dog of +3 or less in this set, the Wildcats fall to a woeful 3-11 SU and 3-10 ATS! The Tigers want their sweet revenge and they'll get it. Take Missouri. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker. |

#742 4* MISSISSIPPI STATE +9 over Kentucky 9 PM EST
Wildcats are an awesome club, fully-deserving of their reputation . . . but MSU has given them fits in Starkville for many years, and while this is the best UK team in a good while, Bulldogs can say the same thing about themselves. Considerable home-team length give home side a great chance to hang in for the full forty minutes, and Arnett Moultrie would see significant minutes if he played for UK. Key will be keeping out of foul trouble -- especially Renardo Sidney -- but Dee Bost's ballhandling skills will help home pup keep pace, here, and look for a very, very competitive final score. #742, 4*, Mississippi State, +9. Thanks, and good luck! |
